The American nation ran a hand through his hair as realization hits him hard in the face. They were trapped. And it was all his fault. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Alfred gritted his teeth and rubbed his temple. God, he was such an idiot. He looked over to see Arthur pacing back and forth and talking to himself. He was about to approach him when the Briton went quiet and started whispering. “Hear wha—” He stopped himself. Yes, he could hear it. Footsteps, faint but heavy. And it was coming closer. “Don’t just stand there!” He hissed, grabbing at Arthur’s arm, “Let’s move!”
Arthur’s eyes were wide as he listened. Whatever was coming..it wasn’t good. He blinked and nodded as his arm was grabbed, shaking it out of his grip and grabbing Alfred’s arm, pulling him along. “Alright. We just..need to find a room..” he muttered, walking quickly down the hallway. There was no need to run..yet. Just needed to find a place to hide for a bit to wait for whatever that…thing was to pass.
“Right.” Alfred said with a nod before heading towards one of the doors down the hallway. He grabbed at the knob and twisted it, expecting it to open. Frowning, he jiggled the knob and pushed at the door. He swore under his breath and moved to another door. No such luck there. He dragged Arthur with him and found that many of the doors were locked. When they took a sharp right turn and reached the end of the hallway, he spotted another door. He hoped this one would open. The American nation rushed towards it as he heard the footsteps getting louder. Cursing, he pushed open at the door, rather surprised at that it was open and he shoved the Briton inside, closing the door and backing up against it to barricade it.
Arthur kept cursing as each door was locked, heart pounding as the footsteps kept growing closer as they ran down the hallway. He blinked when the door at the end of the hallway was pushed opened, squawking when he was pushed in, falling over with an ‘oof!’ He swallowed heavily and got up, going to the door and backing up against him with it, though he might not help much, as petite as he was. He was shaking a bit, nervous. And he could hear the footsteps getting closer and closer..before they stopped. His eyes widened as he glanced up at Alfred, taking deep breaths to calm his heart. Was it gone..?
Alfred tried to calm his beating heart (which was thrumming really hard against his chest). He heaved, trying to catch his breath and calm his nerves. He placed his ear against the door to listen for footsteps. It seemed to have receded. But he still wasn’t relaxed. The American nation sighed even though he could feel his nerves still rather coiled up and ready to go. He peered around the room they ended up in which was a bathroom. It was rather small but clean, as if it’s never been used before.
Arthur took a deep breath and took a few steps away from the bathroom door, swallowing heavily. “..I think it’s okay..” he muttered, looking around. It was a rather small bathroom. Neat. Clean. He walked to the toilet and looked down, blinking slightly. “..It looks like we can buy things from this if we insert money.” he muttered, tilting his head a bit.
“Wait, what?” The American nation followed after the Briton and stared down incredulously at the toilet. “Is this like some kind of vending machine toilet?” Alfred couldn’t really wrap his mind around the idea. How the heck does that even work? He peered at the pearl white toilet and poked it before digging out his wallet and handing Arthur a dollar. “Why dontcha go test it out?” He said, placing the money on the palm of his hand and urging him forward to the toilet. “We might get somethin’ ta drink.”
